Thomas Wilsher, one of the Norwegians with the longest experience in building successful startups in Silicon Valley, joins AIMS Innovation as the new CTO.
"I have always liked start-ups with "crazy ambitions". The whole idea of using artificial intelligence to monitor IT systems is very exciting. It is clear to me that this is the way to do it when the systems become large and complex.”
The new CTO at AIMS Innovation, Thomas Wilsher, has held key roles in well-known companies such as Oracle and Twilio. The latter company integrates telecommunications services into software and had only 50 employees when Wilsher started ten years ago. It had passed 9,000 employees when Thomas left to join AIMS Innovation.
Wilsher himself started building Twilio Messaging from a niche product with one
engineer for the company's main product. In the last couple of years, he has led the development of the "internet of things" at the company's Berlin office.
“I have always liked start-ups with "crazy ambitions". So AIMS Innovation sounded tempting”,- says the Silicon Valley veteran. Wilsher has also worked with "software as a service" long before anyone at all had begun to think that they should call it "SaaS". One of the things he has learned from there is that safe operation and the least possible downtime are absolutely essential to succeed.
“You can have as many features as you want, but if it is not up and running, it does not bring value. In Twillio we were never down. We were completely "obsessed" with having it up and running, and aimed to be better than the telecom operators”,- says Wilsher.
This leads him to perhaps the most important reason for joining AIMS Innovation - “The whole idea of using artificial intelligence to monitor IT systems is very exciting. It is clear to me that this is the way to do it when the systems become large and complex.”
